I’m Sadegh, the owner/operator of Hickory Floor and Reno here in Ottawa. Many people ask me how I ended up doing what I am doing for a living.

It’s very interesting to me. Because, when I started to write my story here, many things came to my mind;

Was it really because of seeing the gap in the market and trying to fill that gap?

Was it really just because of making money?

Was it because of getting tired of seeing shoddy work and unprofessional tradespeople everywhere?

Am I the third generation of carpenters?

In spite the fact that I have not inherited this business from my grandfather, it has something to do with my father! The truth of the matter goes back to almost 26 years ago when I was 10 years old. At that time my father bought an old house and hired a general contractor to renovate the entire house.

After all these years it’s still crystal clear in my memory how I felt, how the smells changed in the house during the renovation and how happy my mother was about the end result and what conversations my father had with me about the whole process!

I’m not going to walk you through my entire life here. But, getting in trades wasn’t really an option for me at that time. because I always wanted to continue my father’s business and they want me to be an engineer. And I became one but I got into my father’s business after university.

Here I am renovating houses and living in my dream that was unknown for almost 23 years!
